Combining LED with solar helped this historic building produce 100% of common area electricity!
The Frederick Douglass Apartments, located in Baltimore, Maryland, is historically certified by the Commission for Historical and Architectural Preservation. The property used to serve as the second oldest high school for African Americans in the U.S. until the 1980s, when the building was converted into apartments following the school’s relocation. Management recently contracted with Lightility to provide LED and commercial solar for this facility. Lightility was able to design, engineer and finance a lighting system that reduced lighting energy consumption by 65%, and a solar system to produce 290,000 kWh per year of electricity, effectively making the facility’s common areas NET ZERO. There were no out of pocket costs to the customer!
