Did you know that there are around 47,000 charging stations across the country that cater to electric vehicles?

If you are a business owner, you may be considering installing one at your own business. A good incentive to do this may be to get ahead of the curve, with a bigger and bigger push for electric vehicles in the future.

To do this, you are going to have to do some research on commercial EV charging station installation.

What goes into it? What are the biggest things that you need to keep in mind?

This is your guide for installing an EV charging station.

Knowing the Purpose

The first thing that you need to determine is what you think the purpose of these charging stations is going to be for your customers.

When it comes to charging stations, you can go two routes for commercial purposes. You can either install single-phase AC power outlets or you can install DC power outlets.

The difference between these is how long it will take to charge a car. The single-phase AC power outlets can take hours to reach a full charge while DC power outlets can deliver a full charge in under an hour.

So, if you are someone that runs a business where people stay longer such as a hotel or an amusement park, the AC power outlets may do just fine. However, if you run a truck stop on the side of the road or a popular area off of a major highway that people are coming in and out of, the DC power outlets may be worth it.

Keep in mind that DC power outlets cost a lot more to install, so make sure that it is worth it.

Determining a Location

Next, you are going to want to think about the location where you put these charging stations in your parking lot or around your business. You will likely want to keep these charging stations in the same place if you decide to install more than one.

Some suggestions can be to put them in spots in front of the parking lot as an advertisement that you have them. Or, you can put them in the corner of the parking lot where they are less likely to get in the way of other cars.

On top of this, you are going to want to make sure that it is possible to install the electric wiring where you want to place these charging stations.
